- The portico's being installed
- We passed the plumbing inspection
- They're starting to work on the outside trim and roofing
- We've been super busy on the weekends picking finishes
We officially ordered our cabinets - 6 weeks until delivery day, the week of April 18th! We stuck with the Nordic White color for everything - cabinets, island, and pantry. The gray/green color we showed in the previous post was beautiful and would have looked amazing but the finish was a little too expensive for our budget. We figure we can paint in the future, if we decide to change things up a bit. The cabinet ordering process is probably what took us the longest so far in this project.
Next up, choosing granite! I found this picture on Pinterest and decided to use it as my kitchen design inspiration...
I absolutely love everything in this kitchen! So I found out the granite was called Kashmir White...so now I'm on a mission to find it! This past weekend we went to a granite shop in Merrifield, VA. We found a great granite for the master bathroom vanity (Luna Pearl) but we weren't seeing anything we loved for the kitchen. I asked about the Kashmir White and they said it's way over our budget. This fabricator place sent us to a granite distributor right down the street. The warehouse was HUGE! Most of their prices were in the 4-5 price range. Our budget was 1-3 price range. Sure enough, Ryan walks to the far corner where only ONE style was on clearance. Guess what it's called? Kashmir White in the Leather finish. Do you believe it?!?
This was made for me...right?! I actually prefer the leather finish because it doesn't have the shine. It almost looks more like silestone, which I love but it's over our budget and doesn't seem very kitchen friendly since it's not heatproof. So we bought the kitchen granite right then and there! One more thing checked off our list! The granite will be measured and installed as soon as the kitchen cabinets are fully installed.
We've also been busy finishing up the tile order for the basement mudroom and laundry room. We decided to keep it very basic and simple (and cheap!) and went with this Forest Hills Crema Porcelain tile from Home Depot.
We also ordered a new light fixture for the front of our house from Build.com. We only needed one because of the way our Portico is laid out. We'll move the light to the left side of the door since there's more space on that side and it will feel more balanced.
That's about it on our end for the last three or four weeks! Now that we have the cabinet color and granite for the kitchen, next on our plate is the kitchen backsplash.
